When most of us think of a UK seaside break, perhaps the first locations that naturally spring to mind are the likes of Cornwall, Devon... but have you considered a retreat to the stunning beaches in Wales?
Last month we were lucky enough to travel by train to the quaint village of Tywyn in Wales for a yoga and walking retreat. The unspoilt beaches and quiet walking paths made us think - what a perfect spot this is for a relaxing UK break.
Arriving in Tywyn, which gets it's name from the meaning of "sand dune" or "sea shore" we were met by our Sunset Bay Retreat Hosts.
The retreat includes a complementary massage on arrival - what a lovely touch - so we were quickly whisked in for our treatment. We truly melted into the retreat from this point onwards!
The retreat is a 4 day, 3 night escape with an itinerary filled with scenic walks and yoga which was accessible for all levels. Our favourite walk was the one coming down into Aberdovey - photo below. The views were amazing!
There are a few upcoming dates for this retreat if you want to experience the joy of the welsh coast for yourself on a retreat. Autumn Equinox (starting on 18th Sep - 22nd Sep 23) and Nourishing November (starting on 16th Nov - 19th Nov 23).
Wales has over 600 castles, three national parks, 12 great little steam trains, and four UNESCO World Heritage Sites. While on our retreat we were lucky enough to get to see one of the little steam trains in motion - the village was actually where the inspiration for Thomas the Tank Engine originally came from.
So if you're considering a UK retreat, why not explore the Welsh coastline - the untouched sand and quiet seaside shops make it the perfect escape!
